Dear NMRFAM user community,
We hope that all of you and your families and groups are staying healthy at this time. We would like to share the following news and requests from NMRFAM:
First, like many researchers, we are using work from home time to finish writing papers and update web pages. In particular we are working to highlight your work as users of NMRFAM, which is especially important at this time with major changes in the way funding agencies are supporting user facilities.
We are updating the NMRFAM<https://nmrfam.wisc.edu/> web site and including your research highlights there as well as the @nmrfam Twitter<https://twitter.com/nmrfam> account. Please let us know about your project publications that utilized support from NMRFAM facilities, software or staff, and we will help publicize your work. Please send a note to Lai Bergeman<mailto:lai.bergeman at wisc.edu> if you have a recent publication we could highlight in this way, including a figure such as a graphical abstract or spectrum or structure that we could post.
Second, we are beginning to make plans to re-open in accord with UW-Madison campus policies. We have been operating the NMR spectrometers remotely to acquire data while minimizing time on campus (only for cryogen fills and other essential maintenance). Moving forward, we are initiating some Covid-19 research projects in collaboration with covid19-nmr.de<http://covid19-nmr.de/> and we are able to support data collection for other projects of this type in the immediate future. We also can support data collection for samples needing long NMR experiments (days to weeks). In either case, please get in touch with Lai Bergeman<mailto:lai.bergeman at wis.edu> to discuss scheduling and logistics. Please note that shipping is significantly delayed across the country, and our receiving is not at full operation, so please do not send samples right now that are thermally unstable or especially hard to replace. We are hopeful that the shipping situation will improve in another month or so.
Third, additional solid-state NMR spectrometers are coming online despite the limited facility access over the last couple months, and we are looking forward to working with you on projects that will leverage these capabilities. Please contact Lai Bergeman<mailto:lai.bergeman at wisc.edu> or Chad Rienstra<mailto:crienstra at wisc.edu> directly if you have samples (especially already in rotors) that might benefit from data collection at NMRFAM.
Thanks and stay safe and healthy. We look forward to seeing you again in person as soon as we are able.
Best wishes,
Katie Henzler-Wildman, Chad Rienstra, and the NMRFAM staff
